Frequently Asked Questions
What’s your real job?
I’m often asked this question by people who think doing artwork must be just a hobby. They suspect my actual vocation is something more mundane such as Used Car Salesman or Short Order Cook. Yes, Freelance Artist is my real job and has been for most of my adult life.
What are the rates for your services?
Traditional (pen on paper) caricature events are $175 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. Digital caricature events are $250 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. Holiday rates and travel fees may apply. Illustration assignments are billed by the job.
How do I go about booking you?
To book me as a caricaturist for an event requires a signed contract and a 50% deposit to lock in the date. Balance is due at the end of the job. To commission me to create original artwork also requires a 50% deposit. Once I receive the deposit I create a pencil rough for your approval (some revisions to the rough are built into the price.) The balance is due upon approval of the rough draft.
Will I own the artwork you create for me?
Yes, and I’ll be agreeable to signing any document you provide that calls for me to “release all rights” to the image/images.
Why did you draw my nose so large?
Because your nose is large. Seriously though, some people say “I’m very sensitive about my looks, please be kind” while others say “make me as funny looking as you want.” I’m happy to accommodate either request.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love to play the acoustic guitar and write songs. If you have a high threshold for pain you might want to check out some of my work by clicking on this link.
